I see that more and more people are installing solar panel systems in their households, but we do stay in South Africa where we often get load shedding, so this makes a lot of sense. The great part is that we have loads of sunlight and mostly good weather, so the system can charge up to 100 percent daily which does save a lot.
The only downside is that the systems are expensive, and it can take years to pay it back, but the convenience of having the system far outweighs the expense for us.

The good news is that, in many cases, your existing system can be expanded rather than replaced. Whether it can power household appliances depends on the size of your current solar array, the capacity of your inverter, and whether you have battery storage. Small lighting systems are often designed for low-power devices, while running appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, or televisions usually requires larger solar panels, a higher-capacity inverter, and sometimes additional batteries.
Many families make the transition gradually by adding extra panels and upgrading key components as their energy needs grow. It’s often the most cost-effective way to move towards powering more of the home with solar energy.
